Shopping 21st Ave, 12th Ave.
It’s time to explore a section of Nashville that you may not get to very often. The shops on 21st and 12th avenues south range from dedicated home decor to art galleries, and include some amazing antiques.
Start this trip by parking in Hillsboro Village on 21st Avenue. Zeitgeist is a contemporary, fine art gallery that emphasizes local artists and does so in the context of what the management sees happening locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. From photography to installation to painting and works on paper, the best of it all finds a place at Zeitgeist.
Nearby, Retropolitan offers modern eclectic furnishings in a spacious shop with finds ranging from dining tables and sofas to home decor items.
Pangaea, a long-time anchor in Hillsboro Village, features home accents, gifts, and folk art from around the world. You’ll find pillows, picture frames, wall hangings, and more. A reflection of the owner’s and buyers’ tastes and travels, the store makes you think of the southwest, of Mexico, and maybe a little bit of Asia and India.
Across the street, Social Graces caters to those who enjoy expressing themselves personally through fine writing papers, thoughtful gifts, and lovely home décor. According to Teresa Palmer it’s the perfect place to find the “unexpected.”
Up the street, A Thousand Faces offers furniture, art, home decor items, and gifts—in fact a plethora of neat stuff.
Now’s a good time to find Villa Place, a little shopping area carefully tucked away off Edgehill Avenue. From Hillsboro Village, turn right on Wedgewood and left on 16th Ave. At Edgehill, turn right and within a couple of blocks you’ll find Villa Place.
Here, enter Nest Interiors through the damask doors and be transported to an intimate boutique at once elegant and edgy, mysterious and flirtatious, sophisticated and playful. Nest Interiors offers an eclectic mix of delightfully French vintage, modern and traditional, industrial and organic.
Next door, Tweed offers some nursery decor as well as whimsical clothing and accessories. In keeping with the trend to niche’ marketing, everything in the store caters to a newborn to 24 month old baby and their very hip moms.
Head back to 21st Ave. now and stop at Davishire Interiors, a sophisticated source for home furnishings. The showroom is filled with continental antiques, fine furniture, beautiful artwork, and accessories. And the staff is happy to work with clients to select fabrics, wallcoverings, and more.
Turn left on Blair Blvd. and find West Egg at the foot of the hill. West Egg, the retail showroom for R. Higgins Designs, offers one-of-a-kind furniture and accessories, as well as full design services.
Across the street, Alcott Interiors specializes in high end residential design. Here you’ll find some fabulous furnishings, and if you’re looking for antique lighting fixtures, check out the large selection here.
Continue on Blair for a couple of blocks and turn right at its intersection with Belmont Blvd. Just beyond Dallas Ave., Pierce & Co.’s couture gallery features a range of modern lighting, Asian antiques, custom furniture, and accessories.
Take Dallas Ave. east and turn right on 12th Ave. A block South on the right you’ll find a new building sheltering the Two Moon Gallery, owned by Hal Pickel who left his career as an advertising art director to paint full time. He created a space where great contem-porary American artists from across the country can display their work.
Across the street is Harb’s Oriental Rugs Service and Sales Center, a subsidiary of The Oriental Shop, Inc. Here you’ll find an inventory of handmade oriental rugs offered at the lowest possible prices available.
Next door is Summer Classics Home Retail Store, a premier casual patio and outdoor furniture resource and a leader in fine indoor furnishings, unique accessories, and outdoor fabrics. The store offers aluminum patio furniture, outdoor wicker, outdoor cushions, patio umbrellas, garden furniture, teak and wood furniture, and pool furniture.
A bit further north, Savant Vintage Couture has, hidden amongst the vintage clothing, a selection of really fine contemporary furniture, ranging from a clear acrylic dining table and chairs and swinging chair to lamps and more.
Across the street, (n)habit is an environmental supply and design source featuring environmentally sensitive products for homes, as well as design, consulting, and contracting services. You’ll find green choices for flooring, lighting, paint, building materials, countertops, plumbing fixtures, and more.
