Shopping Belle Meade

Belle Meade, long a mecca for those seeking the finer things in life, holds lots of small antique shops, beautiful furnishings stores, fine art, and top-notch framing companies.

From the 440 loop, take Exit 1 to merge onto US-70S W/West End Ave. After passing St. Thomas Hospital you’ll find  Belle Meade Framers on the right, nestled within a Publix shopping center.

With thousands of moulding, matting and fabric samples at their fingertips, “we play with the art, get a feel for the customer’s style or direction and give ideas and suggestions about what to do. We know that framing can either make or break the artwork, and we take our jobs seriously,” says Kevin Dransfield, owner.

Continue south on Harding Road and turn right onto White Bridge Road to find the Picture Frame Warehouse tucked in behind Dalt’s on the right. Offering a variety of standard-size ready-made frames and over 1,500 different custom mouldings including modern, rustic, antique and traditional—this frame shop also stocks unique photo frames, beveled mirrors and quality oil paintings in several different sizes.

Less than a mile further on White Bridge Road brings you to Artifacts, a showroom full of unique and beautiful treasures including antique garden and architectural elements, antique light fixtures, and custom iron furniture services. If repurposing antique objects is your thing, don’t pass this up.

Lumen Lamps, a couple of blocks further north, features every style you can imagine in a table lamp—oriental-inspired, artistic glass, sculptural, and those made from repurposed objects, such as one made from a portion of an antique radiator.

Off the beaten path, Fabu can be reached by traveling .3 miles on White Bridge Road. Turn right onto Charlotte Ave. About a mile down Charlotte, just before 48th Ave., Fabu, a fabulous boutique filled with super-cool home decor, adult and children’s clothing, gifts, and jewelry, is on the left. It’s an eclectic mix of home, gift, and jewelry items, specializing in the repurposed, sustainable, and recycled.

On the way to Fabu, about .4 miles back down Charlotte, lies Thistle Farms, a non-profit business supporting the Magdalene project, a two-year residential community for female survivors of prostitution, violence and abuse. Thistle Farms stocks a number of hand-made body-care products produced by those in the Magdalene Project. Purchasing these products will make you feel good about supporting this 10-year-old project.

Return to White Bridge Road and turn right, as White Bridge Road becomes Briley Parkway. Stay on Briley Parkway and then take Exit 26B to Centennial Blvd. Stay on Centennial Blvd. until it turns north, but travel straight on Cockrill Bend Blvd. for less than two blocks, and you’ll find Garden Park Antiques on the left. You’ll find tables made from salvaged Argentinian balconies and coffee tables constructed from cast iron air return grilles. Keith Merry and his team work miracles here, as do the staff at the companion location, Herndon & Merry, which specializes in hand-forged metal work.

Back on Briley, return to White Bridge Road to find Sprintz furniture on the right. From it’s early 10,000 square foot showroom, the Belle Meade store has expanded to 110,000 square feet and now features Henredon, Thomasville, Lexington, Pennsylvania House, Baker, and Century lines, drawing people to shop from across the country.

In the Paddock Place Shopping Center, The Beveled Edge continues to offer the quality custom framing on which it was founded in 1983, but also offers unusual gifts and home accessories.

This showroom features a variety of high quality appliances, color palettes, design, and cabinetry, as well as the latest trends in kitchens and laundry room appliances.
